Art Fair Finds

Art Fair Philippines | February 20, 2016 | The Link, Ayala Center

I'm so happy to be back here again! This is my second year to visit the Art Fair since it started in 2013. I must say this is the best way for me to discover new artists and get updated with recent works of my

favorite artists both local and international. My mind literally went craaaaaaaazzzy seeing my idols in person. Don't worry I kept it low-key. I am not the type of person who'll approach and introduce myself and go gaga. I guess seeing them was enough. But you know in my mind, it'll probably be like "OH. MY. GOD. I LOVE YOUR WORK. PLEASE BE MY FRIEND." AHAHA That's me being creepy! I guess I just don't know how to act around them without being weird. LOL But somehow, I managed to keep it together. I was with my friend Liya. She kept my soul intact throughout the whole experience. haha (Hi bb!)

Me and Liya. Super crowded that we can't even get a decent pic haha
This is Liya. We were falling in line in 'His Only Son' by Daniel De La Cruz

The Art Fair also became some sort of a mini reunion. My college friends were there. My high school friends were there. Familiar faces are also present. The ex was also there (no biggie). Also met new friends by the way! It just felt really nice that a huge amount of people went to see it and criticizing artworks on their own, making good conversations about what it meant and how it felt. I must say BRAVO to all Filipino artists out there! I just know we are really good at this. This is solely the purpose of putting your work out there. Your message can be heard no matter how small, big or crazy the idea is. I just hope that more and more support and recognition can be given to them so they may continue to grow their skills and talents. More people can get inspiration from it especially those artists/creatives who are starting out.

The work that really struck me the most is the sculptures of Daniel de la Cruz's 'His Only Son’. Learned about him only that day.

Sculptures by Daniel De La Cruz

His work made us use all our senses. From the moment I entered the exhibit, it was dark and the scent already caught my attention and the background music is like a hymn you hear in church. It immediately made me reflect on my stand on my Catholic faith. It brought us to the time in the Old Testament but the pieces were portrayed in a Filipino perspective. It is very relatable to the Filipino audience. I wasn't able to document the whole experience though. I kind of want this time for myself to take it all in and not worry too much about taking photos. If you can catch his work in other exhibits please do visit. I promise it is worth it!

All other works are exceptional too! Check this out!

More eyes
Lol this one is funny.

And last but not the least. This is a personal favorite. It is a small piece surrounded by huge ones in a corner. I kind of made a little game in my mind to guess who made that art piece. And you know you're a fan if you can tell from afar that this is made by Yayoi Kusama and that thrilling feeling when you got closer to check it out and found out that you are right. HAHAHA FUN!!!
